integrating jivamukti immersion

athava yoginam eva/ kule bhavati dhimatam
etad dhi durlabhataram/ loke janma yad idrsam

one of the best births, but difficult to attain, is to be reborn into a family of yogis

says Lord Krisha to Arjune, chapter VI.42 from the Bhagavad Gita, as translated by the jivamukti yoga school

--

Lord Krishna may be right-- but if being born of yogic progeny is the best, then i can't imagine being born into the family of a famous fashion designer is very far behind, if 29 year old whitney pozgay is any indication.  whitney's fall 2010 lookbook debuts her very first collection under her own label, but she has already in her short life overseen collaborations at kate spade, as well as achieved the prestigious role as lead designer for steven alan (responsible for looks coveted by indie girls' everywhere).  i was incredulous when i read this young woman's biography; only a year older than me, and already so accomplished!  until sometime later when a bit of sleuthing on my behalf revealed her to be the providential young niece of kate spade herself.  apparently it helps to have family in high places!

i must admit that i feel a bit of reservation regarding some of the more whimsical pieces in her collection, but these outfits below (notwithstanding the strictly ornamental headpieces)  are absolutely darling!

i wonder what life is going to be like in brooklyn, and i wonder if i'm ever going to wear any of these outfits out on a date!  i'd like to think, yes, i believe so.

check out the rest of the la garconne pre-fall 2010 lookbook here.

after working with these pictures for a couple hours, i realized that what i love about these looks is not exactly the clothes that are in them*, but rawther the way they are put together.  these outfits are flawlessly executed.  the stylists for this shoot are kris kim, the owner of la garconne, and karen kim, the style editor.  who are these fashion geniuses, and how did they learn to create such elegant ensembles in such a seemingly effortless fashion?  are you available for personal consultations?  please let me know for i would love to arrange one when i am rich.

special thanks to calivintage for turning me on to this awesome distributor!

*that said, i will readily accept an order of the see by chloe studded side pocket pant, size 6 if anybody's offering

looking living

todays blog is about inspired living and design.  i spend a fair amount of time dreaming about exactly what i'd like my living space to look like, including the gatherings i would host and the meals i would cook for all the various people i'd invite.  i also spend a fair amount of time dreaming about the places i will travel to and the people i will take with me when i'm rich and famous.  this blog is a little bit inspiration for both:

ahem.  two tickets to brazil, please.  one for me and one for my favorite other person.  i have some scoping out to do!

speaking of boyfriends

wanted:  cute and interesting boys who would like to take me to nice dinners in cozy restaurants, hold hands, and potentially kiss goodnight.  must be extremely kind and unafraid of dreaming

i am such a sucker for these fall boyfriend pullovers by steven alan.  they are at once tomboysy, while the half-down buttons give them just the perfect touch of femininity.  they remind me of the dreams i used to have in adolescence, when although at the time i had braces and one eyebrow and 0 friends that were boys, i used to dream of the day when i might have a smart and adorable boyfriend who would sit in coffee shops with me, talk, and maybe even make out on the bench outside hinsdale middle school.   in these dreams i would wear my cute boyfriend's clothes all the time, and they would always look perfect on me.  steven alan has now made this possible, and circumvented the middleman to boot.  way to go, steve!

the only thing to decide now is which awesome pattern and color i like the best!  so many choices!

high school reunion

so lately i've been fantasizing about showing up to my high school reunion looking radiant, confident, and chic.  i swore to myself when i left ten years ago that i'd never, even again return to face those "bitches and hos" from my hometown, but as november approaches (and omega works its magic) i'm finding myself less and less resentful and more and more curious as to how everyone's been doing?  i mean, i've certainly changed and remained the same, so it'd be interesting to see how others have too.  also to find out who's married and who isn't, etc.  also, i'm doing pretty well in terms of life and confidence, so really what is there to be worried about?  also i haven't gotten fat!  chalk it up to having tons of planets in my 11th house, or perhaps it's the leo rising, but as the date approaches i'm heavily drawn to the idea of dropping in and getting the dish, the scoop, the DL on all my old cohorts.  hell, maybe i'll even make out with somebody!  (and maybe this time around, they won't be gay! or have a girlfriend!  but that's another story)

i think either of these sleek little numbers from diane von furstenberg would do just the trick:

while i was perusing the site i figured i might as well take a little peek and see if diane had any other items for sale that i might like to add to my fall collection.  not a ton caught my eye, which is interesting because diane von furst has been one of my most favorite go-to designers in the past.  but i loved the light-heartedness and versatility of this fall petticoat:

now all i need is to find a company that makes fair trade and sustainable tights and stockings!
